Microsoft Announces New Halo Television Series
Halo, the popular Xbox game that has caused mass hysteria for every launch, will be hitting the TV screen in a new way in fall 2015. Produced by Steven Spielberg, the new sci-fi series will star Master Chief (the game’s main protagonist) and will run on a new engine created by 343 Studios, the developers of Halo.
Along with the new series, Microsoft has released a sequel to the popular Halo game empire, called Halo 5: Guardians. If the release is anything like its predecessor, Microsoft can expect to make a cool $300 million within the first week.
“Halo 5: Guardians is obviously a big deal for us,” said Frank O’Connor, franchise development director at 343. “It’s the next chapter in the Master Chief saga.”
Microsoft will make more announcements regarding the Halo enterprise during its presentation at the Electronic Entertainment Expo on June 9. The expo is the biggest annual gaming gathering in the industry. The company hopes these initiatives will boost sales, as they only sold 5.1 million consoles in the last two quarters compared to Sony’s 7 million PlayStation 4 consoles sold during the same time period.
